Your gateway to the Forty-Ninth 1915-1919

The Memory Project
Since 2020, the 49th Battalion Memorial Project has worked to preserve and share the legacy of the 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment) in the Great War—connecting you to their story, their sacrifice, and your heritage.

The Forty-Ninth
As part of the famed Canadian Corps, the 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment) was among the hardest-fighting Canadian infantry units of the Great War. Its ranks were filled with pioneers, homesteaders, and men seeking adventure. Of more than 4,000 who served, over half were wounded and one in four made the ultimate sacrifice.

Upcoming Europe Battlefield Tour

An official battlefield tour to the Western Front is taking place in August 2026. Retracing the steps of the battalion from disembarkation in 1915 to victory in 1918. Additionally, we will be unveiling the new 49th Battalion (E.R.) Memorials at Courcelette, France & Passchendaele, Belgium.
