438651 Pte. James Dunlop
52nd Battalion (Ontario), CEF
Daniel Dunlop Sr. enlisted with his three sons in 1915. By war's end, the father was the sole survivor. James Dunlop was the first to be killed. Less than a week later, John Burt Dunlop was killed serving as a runner with the 49th Battalion (E.R.). He had lied about his age and was barely 16 at the time of his death during the Sanctuary Wood counter-attack in June 1916. The eldest son, Daniel Dunlop Jr., was vaporized by a shell during the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917. With no known graves, the Dunlop brothers are commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
