101162 Private George H. Rollison

"A" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Despite being only 16, George Rollison enlisted in 1915 his older brother and father. The three joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in Flanders in June 1916. Three months later George was wounded on the Somme and invalided to hospital. By the following spring, the father too fell wounded at Vimy Ridge. Whilst in hospital, George's true age was discovered by military authorities and he never returned to France. He returned to service domestically in the Second World War and passed away in Cold Lake in 1978.
