"A" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)
William Edgar Proctor joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in December 1916. During the Battle of Cambrai, Proctor led took command of his lewis gun section after his NCO was killed. His courage under heavy fire and quick thinking inspired his men, and his skilled use of the gun helped push the attack forward. He survived the war and lived in Lac La Biche, Alberta, after the war and passed away in Washington, USA, in 1933.
