"A" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)
Hugh Maldwyn Roberts was a gifted musician who volunteered for service in 1915. Joining the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in Flanders in June 1916. He served throughout the Somme, Vimy, Passchendaele, and the Hundred Days offensive. Whilst preparing to move forward to attack the Marcoing Line in September 1918, Roberts was lethally struck by shrapnel from a shell and killed. He is buried at Crest Cemetery, France.
