161142 Private Arthur Wade Lowe
"C" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)
Arthur Wade Lowe joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in September 1916. He was twice wounded in the face—first at Regina Trench in October 1916, then again during the Avion Raid in June 1917. After recovery on each instance, he returned to the front. In October 1917, while bivouacked near Wieltje, Belgium, his company came under attack by German Gotha bombers. Private Lowe was mortally wounded in the blast and died soon after. The Memorial Plaque is still held by Lowe's family and for decades was prominently displayed within their home.
