252462 Private Ralph H. Quick

"C" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Asa Arnold and Ralph Henry Quick were brothers and enlisted together in 1916, but war soon separated them. Asa was transferred to the 10th Battalion and sent to the front in April 1917. Just three days after joining his unit, he was killed on the opening day of the Battle of Vimy Ridge aged 21. Ralph joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) and fought at Passchendaele in October 1917. Wounded in a German air raid, he refused evacuation, only to be killed days later during the principal assault aged 19. With no known graves, both brothers are commemorated on memorials to the missing.
