"A" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Clarence Rae Box joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in France in April 1917. He was severely wounded during the Avion Raid two months later and invalided to England. Initially reported as dangerously ill, he began to make a remarkable recovery. Tragically Box contracted pneumonia and bronchitis and his condition rapidly deteriorated. Despite treatment, Box died of pneumonia eight days later.
