1st Canadian Mounted Rifles
Following his brother's death on the Somme in 1916 whilst serving with the 49th Battalion (E.R.), John was inspired to enlist. Travelling over 300 kilometres to reach Saskatoon, he enlisted into a local overseas battalion and began training. Arriving in France in June 1917 for service with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles, he was later killed during the attack on Bouchoir as part of the 1918 Battle of Amiens.
