432003 Sergeant William H. Belcher

A trumpeter with the 19th Alberta Dragoons before the war, William Hugh Belcher enlisted into the 49th Battalion (E.R.) on the first day of recruitment in January 1915. He served continuously in France and Flanders as both Bugle Sergeant and Drum Sergeant until his discharge in 1919. Returning to Edmonton, he resumed his postal career and rejoined the militia, becoming Regimental Sergeant Major of the 19th Alberta Dragoons. A participant in the 1936 Vimy Pilgrimage, he retired in 1954 and passed away in 1963.
