432194 Private Gerald Maxwell

Gerald "Jerry" Maxwell enlisted into the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in 1915. Deployed to Flanders, he fought through the counter-attack at Sanctuary Wood and later Courcelette coming out of the actions unscathed. On the 8th of October 1916, his Platoon formed the extreme left of the attack and met uncut wire and heavy machine gun fire. The force was virtually annihilated and the attack was repulsed. Jerry Maxwell was reported as missing following the attack - he would never be found.
