"D" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)
Douglas Percy Keen enlisted into the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in 1915. Deployed to Flanders, he was badly wounded in April 1916 by a German rifle grenade which exploded nearby. The blast had killed a PPCLI officer. Invalided to England for treatment, he never returned to the Western Front. Following his discharge, Keen settled in Saint Paul, Alberta where he married and raised a family. He passed away in 1975.
