"A" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Charles Alan Edenborough had fought in the Spanish American War with 2nd Texas Volunteer Infantry. By the outbreak of the First World War, he was living in Alberta. He enlisted with the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in 1915 and arrived in Flanders later that year. Whilst on the Kemmel Front in late February 1916, he was buried alive by shell fire. This combined with pneumonia saw him invalided to England and ultimately Canada. He returned to Texas after the war and passed away in 1947.
