Transport, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

William Digby Harris was a longtime member of both the transport section of the 49th Battalion (E.R.) and the 7th Brigade Trench Mortar Battery. Frequently exposed to enemy shell fire, he had numerous narrow escapes. On one instance in September 1918, his unit had been shelled out of camp and four horses had been killed. Harris survived the war. Retiring in British Columbia, he passed away in 1974 aged 91.
