
433019 Sergeant Robert Hunter MM
"B" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)
Robert Hunter was a barrister before enlisting into the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in 1915. A member of the machine gun section of "D" Company, he was wounded in the lead up to the counter-attack on Sanctuary Wood in June 1916. Invalided to England for treatment, he would not return to the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in France until June 1917. During the Pursuit to Mons, Hunter displayed great bravery and ability during the liberation of Baudor resulting in him being awarded the Military Medal. Robert Hunter passed away in British Columbia in 1956.
