433042 Sergeant Ringland C. Reid DCM

Headquarters, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Ringland Cuthbert Reid was homesteading in the Peace River district before travelling to Edmonton to enlist in the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in 1915. Wounded in the neck during the counter-attack at Sanctuary Wood in June 1916, he returned to duty just 15 days later. Serving as a Lewis Gunner throughout the war, his skill would ultimately see him being appointed as Battalion Lewis Gun Sergeant in 1918. Following the armistice, he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his gallantry in all engagements he partook in. After the war, he farmed in Northern Alberta before retiring in British Columbia, where he remained active in the 49th Battalion (E.R.) Association until his passing in 1963.
