437049 Private Hugh Aspinall
"A" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)
Bob Aspinall had joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in the autumn of 1915. He and his best friend - Sam Campbell - were stout hearted, courageous and inseparable companions during the Great War. They were said to be ideal subjects for a comedy sketch and despite being older than most, they were true frontline soldiers. Aspinall served continuously with the 49th Battalion (E.R.) throughout the war. He passed away in Victoria in July 1964.
