"B" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Douglas Edward McCall joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in Flanders in January 1916. Although wounded during the counter-attack on Sanctuary Wood in June 1916, he remained at duty and serve in France until armistice. Returning to Calgary after the war, he married and raised a family. In October 1916, Douglas Edward McCall inscribed his name in a souterrain on the Somme. It still survives to this day.
