
Second Lieutenant Frederick D. Marett

Frederick Dumares Marett was part of a small cadre of Canadian Army Medical Corps orderlies attached to the original 49th Battalion (E.R.). In France, he was assigned to water detail. In the summer of 1918, Marett was and granted the opportunity for a commission. He went to Calais for a one month probationary period but returned to the front without a commission. He was wounded weeks later during the opening day of the Second Battle of Arras in August 1918 suffering a shrapnel wound to the head in addition to fractured arm. Shortly after recovery, Marett was granted a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Ordinance Corps in October 1918.
