757161 Private Robert McN. Pollington

"D" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Robert McNair Pollington lied about his age to enlist and sailed overseas with his two sons. He was 49 at the time. He joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in the Vimy sector in November 1916. Exposed to the harsh, frosty and wet winter trench conditions, Pollington was deemed medically unfit in March 1917 and was transferred out of the battalion. He was discharged in 1918 and died in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1940.
