"C" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

William Morrison Stewart was a Scottish immigrant farming near Bateman, Saskatchewan. Enlisting in January 1916, by the end of the year he was in France with the 49th Battalion (E.R.). Whilst on the Crater Line at Vimy Ridge in early February 1917, a shell exploded nearby wounding him. He was invalided to hospital and wouldn't return to the front until that November. He served continuously with the 49th Battalion (E.R.) from that point until armistice.
