812085 Private James W. Cowan

James William Cowan joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in December 1916. He was wounded two months later and did not return to the front until November 1917. He was later wounded again during the Battle of Cambrai in 1918. Surviving the war, Cowan returned to his family in Edmonton and pursued a career in firefighting. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 91.
