"A" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

Thomas Williams joined the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in France in early 1917. Serving as a Lewis Gun commander during the Second Battle of Arras, he led his men with great bravery and determination. Along with capturing and employing German machine guns against the enemy, he broke up a strong German counter-attack on the morning of the 28th of August 1918. Williams sustained a gun shot wound to his neck one month later during the Battle of Cambrai and was invalided to England. He survived the war and passed away in Vancouver in 1962.
