Harry Jarmen Bennett

"A" Company, 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment)

Harry Jarman Bennett was part of the first wave of the Sanctuary Wood counter-attack in June 1916. Despite being wounded, he refused evacuation and fought on in deadly trench fighting for two days until relieved.

Later that summer he fell seriously ill with trench fever and jaundice, requiring months of treatment and recovery in England. Bennett later returned to France and ultimately rose to became the Quartermaster Sergeant for "A" Company.
