Lieutenant Harold Drabble

"D" Company, 49th Battalion (E.R.)

A barrister and Boer War veteran, Harold Drabble left a promising future for a commission with the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in 1915. He served in Flanders and was severely wounded and shell shocked during the counter-attack at Sanctuary Wood in June 1916. After several months in hospital, he returned to France for service with the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in January 1917. Plagued with poor health stemming from trench conditions, he returned to England three months later and was ultimately discharged. He passed away in England in 1939 due to service related causes.
