John Lloyd Bishopric
"D" Company, 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment)

John Lloyd Bishopric was a well known Edmonton athlete, militia officer, and member of the Edmonton Eskimos football team before enlisting for overseas service in 1915.
Reaching France with the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in the spring of 1917, he quickly proved himself during the successful trench raid at Hill 70, remaining in action despite being wounded. Just one month later, Lieutenant John Lloyd Bishopric was killed by shrapnel on the Passchendaele Ridge, hours before the battalion’s attack. He has no known grave.
