Stanley Henry Thieme

"C" Company, 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment)

Stanley Henry Thieme was among the first to enlist in 1914. An officer in the 19th Alberta Dragoons before the war, he served in France with the Special Service Squadron before accepting a commission in the 49th Battalion (E.R.) in the summer of 1915.

Invalided home after illness caused by the harsh conditions on the Kemmel Front, he was discharged in 1917. Thieme later helped found the 49th Battalion Association and led the Royal Canadian Legion in Hythe, Alberta. Three of his brothers also served with the 49th Battalion (E.R.), one making the ultimate sacrifice on the Somme in 1916.
