Arthur Paul Chattell DSO
Headquarters, 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment)

Arthur Paul Chattell was an inspiring man. Efficient in his duties, unyielding in his devotion, and always of a cheerful disposition no matter the circumstance, his example inspired many. Apart from a period in hospital recovering from wounds received on the Somme in 1916, he served continuously with the 49th Battalion (E.R.).
In September 1918, he received the Distinguished Service Order at Buckingham Palace by King. Returning to France, he assumed temporary command of the battalion and led it during the Battle of Cambrai and was frontline battle commander during the Pursuit to Mons in November 1918. After the war, Chattell remained active in the 49th Battalion Association and passed away in 1942.
