Major Hilton D. McKnight VD

Royal Garrison Artillery

Hilton Danzell McKnight, born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, interrupted his studies at the University of New Brunswick to join the British Army in 1916. He served as a Lieutenant with the Royal Garrison Artillery, was wounded in France in May 1918, and served overseas until 1919. His brother, Locksley McKnight, was a 49th Battalion (E.R.) officer killed at Courcelette in 1916. After the war, Hilton completed his degree and taught at the High School of Montreal, where his students included Oscar Peterson and Christopher Plummer. He also served in the Cadet Service of Canada and passed away in 1959.
