Charles A. Walker DCM

Headquarters, 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment)

Following a disastrous attack in October 1916, supplies were urgently needed in the frontline trench. Despite the danger, mud and darkness, Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant Charles Addington Walker bravely and skillfully led a carrying party through a barrage of fire to reach the frontline delivering much needed water, rations, ammunition and hand grenades to the survivors of the attack who were now awaiting an expected German counter-attack. Walker was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

By the end of the war, Walker was serving as the Quartermaster. Surviving the conflict, he returned to work for the Hudson Bay Company and later as Indian Agent for Grouard, Alberta. He passed away in 1950, aged 65.
