William Hugh Belcher

When the doors to enlist opened at Victoria Armouries in January 1915, William Hugh Belcher was amongst the first inside. He helped process the intake of new recruits.

Belcher served continuously in France and Flanders as both Bugle Sergeant and Drum Sergeant until his discharge in 1919. Returning to Edmonton, he resumed his postal career and rejoined the militia, becoming Regimental Sergeant Major of the 19th Alberta Dragoons and was one of a handful of Fortyniners to partake in the Vimy Pilgrimage in 1936.
